Teri Meri Kahaani

Last evening, a bored set of us decided to watch this new Bollywood movie release, Teri Meri Kahaani. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra...the interest was kindled more by the way the trailers kept playing over the past week.

Not to mention of course, Shahid's good looks and Priyanka's many avataars in the movie.

As we settled into our seats with large buckets of mixed salted and caramel popcorn and cola, we were swept into a story, unlike other love stories. Thankfully, Bollywood has decided to grow up and now tries to make films that are based on concepts.
Once the movie started, we forgot the concept of time. This factor is actually a huge advantage for a critic watching a movie. If you don't have to wait for the movie to get over, the movie is half a hit.

The story revolves around Shahid and Priyanka meeting each other over 3 separate and disconnected time periods and stories and falling in love, breaking up and getting back together again. So, what's different you'll ask...well, the way the story (ies) have been portrayed. It is not your usual run off the mill romance-drama sequence. The different time periods, different characters that look the same, the way love collides and then grows teaches viewers a lesson. It makes them believe that there is something worth loving for if only you find a love like that.

Shahid did play all his roles well, although Priyanka's roles in all her 3 stories were more genuine and believable. Shahid has always played the naughty-next-door boy role and has enough practice doing so thus.

As the movie wound up 2.5 hours later, I walked out of the theatre with one thought - this movie is a great story for the younger lot of us. But, it certainly isn't a masterpiece in anyway....it's just plain old nice.
